New manager, assistant manager named for Farmers Market
OSU-OKC Farmers Market at Scissortail Park announces new hires
Mary Bixler, Meghan Bradley join market as manager, assistant manager
OKLAHOMA CITY (June 11, 2020) – Two new hires are doing their part to bring a local, vibrant food hub into the heart of downtown at the OSU-OKC Farmers Market at Scissortail Park.
Mary Bixler recently was named manager of the market, while Meghan Bradley has been added as assistant manager/grant coordinator.
Bixler grew up on a small farm in Jones, which fostered her love for agriculture, gardening and nature conservancy.
“Food can take on social and cultural implications as well as environmental and economic,” Bixler said. “Many people understand that local food systems are better for our health, the environment and keeping money circulating in the Oklahoma economy; however, we have the opportunity with this market and corresponding community partnerships to talk about what food and place really mean to Oklahomans.”
Bixler grew her interests into passion while at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she initiated a student sustainability organization, advocated for local and sustainable food systems and helped grow the campus community garden and food pantry.
“I am passionate about growing the local food movement through an inclusive and collaborative approach,” she said.
Bradley graduated in 2017 from the University of Oklahoma, where she majored in journalism and minored in environmental sustainability and business enterprise studies. She comes to the Farmers Market after a yearlong internship with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Northeast Regional Office in Massachusetts, where she supported visitor services initiatives at more than 70 refuges within the national wildlife refuge system.
“It’s exciting to be a part of something new in the community and to have a stake in the future of OKC,” Bradley said. “Our team has the incredible opportunity to build something amazing that brings people together in our community. We get to dream big and decide how we want the market to look and have a positive impact on the future of OKC.”
This year is the first season for the OSU-OKC Farmers Market at Scissortail Park. The park, which opened in 2019, was created through the MAPS 3 capital improvements plan, which was approved by voters in 2009.
