VA Education Benefit Requirements

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) requires OSU-OKC to certify enrollment information for students receiving VA Education Benefits.

To begin using GI Bill® or Dependents Education Assistance Benefits at OSU-OKC, students need to submit a copy of their Certificate of Eligibility, a Request for Certification form and VA Education Benefits Student Responsibility Form to Veteran & Military Student Services.

To begin using Veterans Readiness & Employment Benefits (VR&E), students must first be approved to attend OSU-OKC by a Veterans Readiness & Employment (VR&E) Counselor.  After approval from a VR&E Counselor, students need to submit a Request for Certification form and VR&E Student Responsibility Form to Veteran & Military Student Services.

Military Tuition Assistance Programs

Tuition Assistance and/or Tuition waiver programs may be offered through the various branches of the military. For information on these programs, students should contact the Education Service Officer (ESO) of their unit or Unit Commander. Veteran & Military Student Services does not process tuition assistance paperwork. For more information, visit https://osuokc.edu/tuitionassistance.

Other Financial Assistance

Students receiving VA Education Benefits are encouraged to apply for Federal Student Aid.  Visit Financial Aid & Scholarships for more information.

Military Leave of Absence

Per Oklahoma State law (SB 1830), OSU-OKC offers a military leave of absence (MLOA) to students who are members of the active uniformed military services of the United States who are called to active duty.

An MLOA allows a student to be absent from the University for active duty without penalty to admission status or grade point average and without loss of institutional financial aid. It also allows a student to be eligible for withdrawal from all or some classes with a full refund of tuition and fees or to be eligible for incomplete grades in classes for which they have successfully completed at least 50% of the coursework at the time of leave, if the student intends to complete the classes upon return from active duty.

MLOA shall not exceed a cumulative five years. Students in selective admission programs must contact the Vice President of Academic Affairs upon receiving notice of being called to active duty.

Students can apply for MLOA by submitting an MLOA form and a copy of their active duty orders by email to okc.va@okstate.edu or in person to Veteran & Military Student Services in the OSU-OKC Student Center.
