TRIO Students Give Back with Selfless Hands Foundation

OSU-OKC TRIO Talent Search and Upward Bound students came together on Saturday, February 11 to provide a helping hand with Selfless Hands Foundation.

The mission of Selfless Hands Foundation is to strengthen community ties, promote community activism and assist those in need on a local and national level through various services, programs, partnerships and disaster relief. The non-profit hosted this month’s Selfless Saturday event on campus for the TRIO students. The volunteers assembled hygiene kits and sack lunches, which were then distributed by the non-profit to people experiencing homelessness in Oklahoma City. Together, the students made 225 kits for those in need. The  29 Talent Search and 16 Upward Bound students that volunteered represented 8 schools: Capitol Hill HS, El Reno HS, Mayfield MS, Putnam City West HS, Southeast HS, U.S. Grant HS, Western Heights HS, and Western Heights MS.

This volunteer event was part of a statewide TRIO Service Project, where TRIO programs are volunteering and collecting donation items. The service project is one way TRIO programs participate in TRIO Day, an annual celebration of TRIO at the State Capitol held on February 22nd. The founder of Selfless Hands Foundation, Raven Crisp-Smith, is a TRIO Student Support Services Alumna from OSU-Stillwater, which made the event even more meaningful for TRIO.

If you would like to donate any hygiene items or canned/non-perishable foods benefiting Selfless Hands Foundation, please drop them off at the boxes located near the TRIO offices in the Student Center and Science Building. Donations will be accepted until March 3.
