SkillsUSA Firefighter Competition hosted at OSU-OKC

OSU-OKC welcomed competitors to campus for the state competition in firefighting for SkillsUSA on Monday, April 18. OSU-OKC hosted the competition as part of its 60th anniversary suite of activities. 

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA provides educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms.

Students from career techs in Oklahoma studying firefighting were invited to the state championships held on campus in the parking lot of the ETC building.

Basic Skills Firefighting Competition tested the competitors on necessary skills including ropes and knots, hoisting, hose loads, and donning PPE gear.

The winner of the SkillsUSA Firefighting Competition will head to Lexington, Kentucky for the national competition.
