Oklahoma City - An OSU Degree in OKC.

OSU-OKC’s analytics partnership honored

An analytics company led by an entrepreneur who grew up in Oklahoma was recently recognized for an innovative collaboration furthering the education of Oklahoma’s workforce.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s Regents Business Partnership Excellence Award is designed to highlight successful partnerships between higher education institutions and businesses and to further cultivate the higher learning environment through State Regents’ Economic Development Grants.

Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City celebrates its partnership and collaborations with Bear Cognition. Bear Cognition is a vital in the institution’s commitment to leveraging data to drive improvement in performance and service to stakeholders. Through the support of the Bear Cognition team and its owner Philip Erdoes, the company has provided OSU-OKC with real-time access to world-class data scientists and actionable intelligence.

Bear Cognition representatives play central roles in OSU-OKC’s initiatives focused on addressing current and emergent workforce needs. Teams collaborate with the institution on identifying the competencies needed in the areas of data analysis, project management and effective business processes. Such insights are invaluable to OSU-OKC’s development and implementation of new programming that connects the institution’s diverse student population with rewarding, high-demand career opportunities with the state’s leading employers.

“You can’t manage what you can’t measure,” Erdoes said. By providing deeper analytic tools to OSU-OKC, the school is better able to manage information about students, trends and occupations that can help drive strategic planning.

“And doing that through analytics, because that is where the game is played today,” Erdoes said.

Kim Erdoes, Executive VP of Growth and Excellence at Bear Cognition, said using technology and analytics can help OSU-OKC discover “where the gaps are,” both in classes, available training, and in occupational needs for the state.

Philip Erdoes said being able to give back to OSU-OKC – which he does through the Erdoes family’s funding the President’s Leadership Class scholarships in addition to his work with the school through Bear Cognition – is among the most rewarding parts of his career. Philip Erdoes is also CEO of the New Traditionalists, a US furniture manufacturer, as well as Chairman and CEO of Bear Cognition, a data analytics company.  He is also managing partner of Last Rodeo Studios, a film production and investment entity, and Bear Ventures, which invests in a broad range of industries, including tech, manufacturing, design, media, analytics, and logistics.
