OSU-OKC receives Union Pacific grant
OSU-OKC’s STEM Careers program awarded grant
Union Pacific Foundation makes grant contribution for second year in a row
OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 19, 2019) – An Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City program that encourages STEM careers exploration has received a grant from the Union Pacific Foundation for the second year in a row.
The foundation awarded OSU-OKC a $7,000 grant for the school’s Fridays are for STEM Careers program, which allows low-income high school students in the metro area to spend a day exploring STEM career options on campus. The OSU-OKC program was granted $8,000 last year to help cover the cost of supplies, transportation and meals for students.
Program participants tour academic programs and take part in hands-on lessons taught by college faculty or industry professionals. The students also learn about STEM-related careers and receive guidance on selecting a college, enrolling for classes and applying for financial aid.
OSU-OKC officials said the goals of the program are to increase job applicant diversity for STEM jobs and to increase the overall number of STEM professionals in Oklahoma.
