OSU-OKC receives grant from Waste Management

Funds will support university’s Fridays are for Careers and Recycling program

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 15, 2019) – Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City is the recipient of a $5,000 Think Green grant from Waste Management, university officials announced today.

The funds will support the school’s Fridays are for Careers and Recycling program. The program brings public school students to the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) campus for a four-hour experience centered on career exploration and the importance of recycling. Participants tour different academic programs and engage in hands-on lessons taught by college faculty or industry professionals.

Attendees also get tips on how to select and enroll in a college, and guidance on applying for financial aid.

The Fridays are for Careers program is now in its fourth year. It has served more than 700 students from nearly two dozen schools, including several underprivileged schools in the Oklahoma City area.

“This program has a positive impact on our community by providing a crucial opportunity for youth to learn about recycling while also allowing underserved students to spend time on a college campus, thus realizing that college is a possibility,” OSU-OKC President Brad Williams said. “We extend our gratitude to Waste Management for their support.”
