OSU-OKC receives Firehouse Subs safety grant

OSU-OKC receives grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Grant money to be used to purchase equipment for school’s Fire Protection program

OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 26, 2019) – Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City’s Fire Protection program will be able to purchase a new piece of state-of-the-art equipment thanks to a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The $3,275 grant will be used to purchase a portable ground monitor. This type of equipment delivers water onto large fires and can be left unmanned at the scene of a fire in order to free up firefighting personnel.

“This crucial piece of equipment will allow instructors to properly train students who wish to dedicate their lives to fire protection,” said Joe Bennett, director of the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) Fire Protection program. “Having state-of-the art equipment and next-level technology affords OSU-OKC the opportunity to provide students training in the latest techniques and procedures in the field.”

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation gives to first responders and public safety organizations across the country, providing more than $44 million – including nearly $800,000 in Oklahoma – in equipment, training and support since the foundation’s inception. The funds are raised through donations made at Firehouse Subs restaurants. In addition, a portion of every purchase at Firehouse Subs restaurants in the United States goes toward the foundation.

“We appreciate the support of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation,” Bennett said. “The future first responders who are training here at OSU-OKC are appreciative as well.”

OSU-OKC’s Fire Protection program began more than 40 years ago, and offers degree and certification options. For more information, go to www.osuokc.edu/fireprotection.
