OSU-OKC receives $70,000 Boeing grant for concurrent enrollment programming

Program allows Dove Science Academy students to earn college credits, prep for STEM careers

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 19, 2018) -- Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City is the recipient of a $70,000 grant from the Boeing Company that will support concurrent enrollment programming at Dove Science Academy, school officials announced today.

The concurrent enrollment program delivers high-quality, college-level courses and creates a pathway for high-performing, motivated Dove Science Academy students to gain college credit from Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) while in high school.

In 2017, Boeing contributed $60,000 in grant money to the program, with the aim of increasing STEM education in Oklahoma City and creating a pipeline of skilled workers who can stay in the state and support in-demand aerospace positions.

OSU-OKC President Dr. Brad Williams said the funding from Boeing is a great partnership as it helps prepare students to pursue their educational goals that are aligned with Oklahoma’s aerospace industry.

“We greatly appreciate the Boeing Company for its continued support,” Williams said. “The program provides a pathway for Dove students to earn college credits at no cost to them or their families. This gives them the chance to achieve their dreams while having a significant impact on the state’s aerospace industry.”

Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company, has also supported Dove students through mentorship opportunities. This summer, Dove students and their families participated in an event in which Boeing engineers discussed the importance of education while helping families understand the path to employment.

Dove school officials said students there are thrilled to be able to take advantage of the opportunities offered through OSU-OKC.

“Our students are excited to earn college credits, and this program allows them to accomplish that while at the same time not creating a financial burden for the students,” said Silap Berdiyev, director of academics and counseling for Dove Schools.
