OSU-OKC Hosted Youth for June Summer Camp on Career Possibilities
Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) hosted its annual college and career exploration camp, “So You Want to Be,” June 11-15, 2018. Camp participants were students entering sixth – eighth grades this fall.
“So You Want to Be” is designed to introduce the 40 students attending to the wide range of college and career paths found in the Oklahoma City community and is free-of-charge, made possible by a generous grant from The Anschutz Foundation. During the week, students get an up-close-and-personal view of what life is like on a college campus, participate in hands-on activities, and explore a variety of career fields such as nutritional science, journalism, nursing, engineering, veterinary technology, firefighting, emergency medical services, crime scene investigation and sonography. The camp also includes a daily meal, soft skills training, career counseling and support services. Early exposure to career options at camp, as well as connecting with career professionals in a variety of activities helps students leave camp excited about their future and motivated to take the next steps in their education.
Other businesses and organizations partnering with OSU-OKC in producing “So You Want to Be” included The Oklahoman, The Boeing Company, Cox Communications and Tinker Air Force Base.
Camp activities suggested for interview, photography and video opportunities during the week:
