eSports tournament supported by Microsoft, State Farm Insurance, Oklahoma City Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 19, 2019) – The region’s best NBA2K gamers are invited to take part in the inaugural OSU-OKC NBA2K Showdown, with the championship finals set for Nov. 16 on the university’s campus.

Preliminary rounds will be held Oct. 19 and 26 and Nov. 2 and 9 at the Microsoft Store at Penn Square Mall, 1901 Northwest Expressway. The finals will be staged Nov. 16 in the Community Impact Center on the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) campus, 930 N Portland Ave., in northwest Oklahoma City.

Each preliminary round will feature up to 64 competitors battling in the recently released NBA2K20, with the top four in each preliminary advancing to the 16-person finals round at OSU-OKC.

The champion of the OSU-OKC NBA2K Showdown will win a scholarship to OSU-OKC supported by State Farm Insurance, a limited-edition NBA2K Xbox One X console and controller from the Microsoft Store, and a VIP experience from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In addition, all 16 finalists will receive a prize package from event sponsors.

OSU-OKC President Brad Williams said the university is excited to be able to provide a platform for local gamers to display their skills, especially as gaming moves more rapidly into mainstream culture.

“Gaming has moved beyond simply being viewed as a leisure activity,” Williams said. “We see gamers as the next generation of problem-solvers. They’re practicing and developing critical-thinking skills that translate into the ability to confront any number of global challenges.”

“To partner with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Microsoft and State Farm Insurance to host these future difference-makers on our campus is an epic win for all involved.”
