OG&E, OSU-OKC awarded for partnership

OG&E and Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City were honored by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for their ongoing partnership, showcasing how businesses and educational institutions can work together for long-term benefit.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s Regents Business Partnership Excellence Award is designed to highlight successful partnerships between higher education institutions and businesses and to further cultivate the higher learning environment through State Regents’ Economic Development Grants.

For more than two decades, OG&E and Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City have collaborated in the development and promotion of the institution’s Power Transmission and Distribution Technology program. Since 2000, OG&E has served as an exceptional partner by providing a range of financial, in-kind and other forms of support, including student scholarships, instructional equipment and adjunct instructors. In addition, OG&E collaborates with OSU-OKC in student recruitment, assisting the institution with addressing a workforce need that directly impacts safety and well-being.

Institutions involved in these partnerships provide $500 in other financial support AND receive a matching $500 State Regents’ Economic Development Grant that is applied to either:

  1. The tuition of an employee of the business being recognized.
  2. A paid internship for a current student of the institution to work at the business being recognized.
  3. A faculty externship with the business being recognized.
  4. Enhancement of the partnership with additional equipment, materials or supplies.

Honorees were celebrated at a March 10 ceremony at the University of Central Oklahoma.

“Our meaningful partnership with OSU-OKC continues to provide solutions to OG&E’s workforce development needs,” said Scott Briggs, OG&E VP of Human Resources. “OSU-OKC provides high-quality, hands-on education and instruction for their students in the Power Transmission and Distribution Technology program and we are honored to support their efforts to help energize Oklahoma’s future energy industry workers. We are delighted to receive this honor and look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts for many years to come.”

As a leading employer of Power Transmission and Distribution Technology program interns and graduates, OG&E also assists with the placement of students with subcontractors and other employers in the power transmission industry. OSU-OKC is proud of, and grateful for, the long-standing partnership with OG&E and the positive impacts it has on the students, the power distribution industry, the state and region.
