Application deadline extended for LPN- and paramedic-to-RN pathways

OSU-OKC extends application deadline for LPN-to-RN pathway program

Applicants have until Dec. 2 to apply for spring semester classes

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 30, 2019) – Nursing program officials at Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City have extended the application deadline for licensed practical nurses and paramedics interested in pursuing the school’s registered nurse pathway track in the spring semester.

The application deadline for the licensed practical nurse (LPN)- and paramedic-to-registered nurse (RN) pathways is now Dec. 2. The decision to extend that deadline was made in conjunction with the recent announcement that Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) is expanding the capacity of its nursing program.

“We know that many LPNs and paramedics see a great deal of benefit in increasing their knowledge and skills and transitioning to a registered nurse role,” said Penny Ridenour, division head for Health Sciences at OSU-OKC. “This can result in more earning potential and a more prominent role in a healthcare setting.”

To assist students as they make the transition from LPN or paramedic to RN, OSU-OKC has developed a new mentor/advisor position within the program. The mentor aligns with each cohort of students and stays with them through the completion of their nursing studies, which typically last a minimum of three semesters.

“This type of guidance and one-to-one attention is a real benefit for those entering our RN pathways,” Ridenour said. “There is someone there to see you though to the end and to try to help ensure your success.”

OSU-OKC’s RN pathways teach LPNs and paramedics the critical thinking, theory and decision-making skills behind the medical tasks that each group of professionals typically carries out. Through their studies, students are then prepared to earn their RN status by sitting for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse.

The spring semester at OSU-OKC begins Jan. 21.Those interested in an LPN- or paramedic-to-RN pathway should apply early in order to be sure they can meet all application criteria.
