About the Power Transmission and Distribution Technology Certificate

Electrical power-line installers and repairers are responsible for the construction, installation, and maintenance of both overhead and underground power lines, which are essential components of the electric power and distribution systems

Overview

As one of Oklahoma’s Top 100 Critical Occupations, with an average of 280 annual openings, there are numerous opportunities both locally and nationwide. The program is hands-on from day one, with students using current industry equipment throughout the coursework to prepare for their careers. Students begin with the basics of climb safety and the principles of working at height.

 

Coursework

The coursework within the certificate program covers electrical principles, electrical and climb safety, pole climbing, driver safety (CDL), high voltage transmission and distribution, and line construction and maintenance. The training and skills acquired qualify graduates to work with numerous public and private power utilities across Oklahoma and the United States.

 

Requirements and Deadlines

The technical courses in this certificate program are also part of the Power Transmission and Distribution Technology A.A.S. degree. This certificate can be earned independently of the degree. To advance to the next course in the required sequence, students must complete the prerequisite course with a grade of 'C' or better.
