The Associate of Science in American Sign Language degree and Associate of Applied
Science in Sign Language Interpretation provides foundational coursework towards a
bachelor’s degree.
Why American sign language?
The Interpreter Training Program is designated to develop a fluency in American Sign
Language and to prepare interpreters to function in a variety of interpreting situations
with persons who are Deaf and Hard of hearing.
As an independent contractor, you have the freedom to choose how much work to take
on, allowing for flexibility in balancing your work and life priorities. There is
a growing demand for interpreters in private practice across various settings including
concerts, theater, medical, legal, mental health, social services, and educational
interpreting in both mainstream public shools and postsecondary institutions.
"Coming to OSU-OKC and getting certified in sign language was the best career choice
I have ever made. [OSU-OKC] doesn’t throw general degrees at students in hopes they
will learn their trade during their first job. They train you to be ready for the
workforce and give you practical experience."
