First Generation Celebration Day
First Generation Day is to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. This day emerged out of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty, which was intended to help level a playing field for Americans from minority and low-income backgrounds, as well as created federal grants and loan programs to help students finance their education. This day is to celebrate all students who are the first person in their immediate family to attend college.
