OSU-OKC Fire is offering a concurrent enrollment high school fire training program beginning with the fall 2024 semester.

Classes will include:

  • Fall 2024 for Firefighter 1
  • Spring 2025 for Firefighter 2

  • You can become a certified firefighter by the time you complete high school and are ready to move into the workforce.
  • You are eligible to apply if you will be a junior or senior during the academic year. School counselor inquiries are welcome.
  • Open to all school districts, public, private, and home schools.

Rural High School Concurrent Firefighter Academy:

Each student in the Rural High School Concurrent Firefighter Academy must be sponsored by a local career or volunteer fire department. As part of their sponsorship, students will be added to their sponsoring department's roster as junior firefighters and can participate in any firefighter activities authorized by their department. In return, the sponsoring fire department agrees to provide the necessary structural firefighter PPE for the student’s participation in the academy.

If a student needs help finding a fire department willing to sponsor them, they can contact the fire program director at joebe@okstate.edu for local contacts. However, students are responsible for directly contacting fire departments to request sponsorship.

Concurrent students receive a tuition waiver but are responsible for any class fees.

On-Campus High School Concurrent Firefighter Academy:

The On-Campus High School Concurrent Firefighter Academy offers Fire I in the spring semester for juniors only, followed by Fire II and Physical Fitness in the fall semester of their senior year. For juniors and seniors starting in the fall, they will complete Fire I in the fall semester and Fire II and Physical Fitness in the spring semester. These classes are available only on the OSU-OKC campus, with students required to attend classes on campus daily.

Concurrent students receive a tuition waiver but are responsible for any class fees.
