Entry-Level Course Requirements
All OSU-OKC students must demonstrate readiness in reading, writing, and mathematics before enrolling in certain college-level courses. These requirements align with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) Student Assessment Policy and accreditation standards from the Higher Learning Commission. Learn more about OSU-OKC’s current Student Assessment Plan.
OSU-OKC course descriptions and degree requirements in the catalog identify courses with entry-level proficiency requirements using the following notations:
- [R] – Reading proficiency required
- [W] – Writing proficiency required
- [M] – Mathematics proficiency required
Students may meet these requirements through multiple measures, including:
- Transfer credit for college-level coursework in the subject area.
- Minimum test scores: ACT (19) or SAT (510) in the subject area.
- High school GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Qualifying scores on ACCUPLACER Next-Generation placement exam.
For specific minimum placement scores, refer to the current Student Assessment Plan.
Students who do not meet proficiency requirements have options:
- Taking the appropriate ACCUPLACER placement exam to demonstrate readiness, or
- Enrolling in a course with co-requisite support, which pairs the entry-level course with a support course, allowing students to progress toward their degree while receiving targeted academic assistance in the subject area.
