Prior Learning Credit
CareerTech Credential-to-Credit Pathway
OSU-OKC has partnered with the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education to create a direct, formula-based pathway for CareerTech completers to earn college credit toward the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Applied Technology. If you completed a CareerTech Core Framework Program and hold a current, valid industry-recognized credential from OSU-OKC’s approved credential inventory, you may be eligible to receive substantial block credit toward your degree.
How Credit Is Calculated
Total Documented CareerTech Program Hours ÷ 40 = Semester Credit Hours Awarded
Example: A student who completes a 960-hour CareerTech program and holds the associated industry credential receives 24 block credit hours toward the AAS in Applied Technology.
Credit Limits and Transcript Treatment
- Block credit is capped at 42 credit hours per student through this pathway.
- A student’s combined total of prior learning assessment (PLA) and transfer credit may not exceed 45 credit hours (75% of the 60-credit-hour degree).
- Block credit is recorded on the OSU-OKC transcript with a GPA-neutral grade and identified by source.
- Block credit does not apply toward campus residency hour requirements.
- Credit will not be posted to a student’s record until a minimum of 6 credit hours at OSU-OKC have been completed.
