First Generation Celebration Day
Celebrating the first person in the immediate family to attend college
First Gen Day celebrates students who are the first in their immediate family to attend college and recognizes the challenges such students face. This day commemorates the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The HEA aimed to expand education opportunities for Americans by creating key initiatives such as TRIO programs, resources to strengthen institutions of higher education, and student financial support to help students achieve their educational goals. These programs focus on improving access, retention, and completion rates for first-generation students in postsecondary education. Join us as we celebrate these amazing students on their accomplishments and recognize the positive impact they make on higher education institutions across the nation.
