About the Training
In this training, students learn the skills necessary to manage grants for the lifecycle, from grant concept to grant closeout. The course is broken down into three distinct sections, which align with microcredentials that students earn after completing each section of the training.
Finding and applying for funding
This training provides students with a practical framework to successfully secure external funding. Key topics include using search tools to identify, evaluate and prioritize funding sources for grant applications. Students will learn a range of methodologies to navigate the funding landscape including searching Grants.gov and private foundation directories.
Student learning outcomes include:
- Analyze funder alignment
- Demonstrate proficiency in using grant research tools
- Construct a strategic grant prospect pipeline
Proposal development
This training focuses on translating project ideas into successful grant applications. Students will learn the process of crafting a persuasive proposal narrative, including establishing clear objectives, creating a clear plan of operation, developing a budget and outlining an evaluation plan.
Student learning outcomes include:
- Develop a coherent proposal narrative
- Tailor the plan of operations to deliver outcomes to the funder
- Create a detailed budget and budget narrative
Post award administration
This training provides students with the knowledge and skills to manage externally funded projects. Students will focus on interpreting the grant notice of award along with grant terms and conditions. Students will also learn the complex requirements outlined in federal grant guidance and audit requirements.
Student learning outcomes include:
- Analyze the grant award notice and apply guidance to ensure compliance
- Monitor grant expenditures against the approved budget
- Prepare and submit accurate financial and programmatic reports
- Manage all steps of the grant closeout process
