Fire Investigation Certificate

The Fire Investigation Certificate at OSU-OKC equips you with the technical skills and legal knowledge to determine the origin and cause of fires. Whether you're starting your career or expanding your expertise, this program prepares you to work in fire departments, insurance companies, or law enforcement agencies.

What You’ll Learn

In this 15-credit-hour certificate, you’ll dive into the science and strategy behind fire investigation. You’ll study fire behavior, evidence collection, and legal procedures, gaining the tools to conduct thorough investigations and present findings in court. Courses include:

  • Physical Science for Fire Investigators
  • Fire Dynamics
  • Fire Investigation Techniques
  • Constitutional Law and Expert Testimony Origin and Cause Report Writing

Each course builds on the last, so you’ll need to complete prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better to move forward.

Program Format

Courses are offered in fall, and spring semesters, giving you flexibility to complete the certificate on your schedule. You’ll need at least six credit hours earned in residence at OSU-OKC and a minimum 2.0 GPA to graduate.
