Physical Development and Creative Expression

This course focuses on physical development and creative expression in young children, birth to five years. Sensitive, supportive and responsive care-giving that meets the needs and interests of young children is emphasized. Developmentally appropriate expectations and environments that support physical development and creative expression are studied and emphasized.

Goals and Objectives

  • Identify and recognize the importance of creativity in infant, toddler and twos;
  • Describe the fundamental concepts of creativity and aesthetics as related to child development;
  • Learn about the role of play in creative activity and development;
  • Investigate physical development in infants, toddlers and twos;
  • Learn about relationships and its effects on cognitive and language development;
  • Develop infant/toddler/preschool curriculum that promotes creativity and physical development within the classroom and outdoor environments;
  • Create and critique teaching strategies and tools that physical development and creative expression;
  • Develop and implement Single Activity Lesson Plans with integrated Early Learning Guidelines focusing on physical development and creative expression within the classroom and outdoor environments; and
  • Self-discover transformative knowledge and skills gained through assimilating and accommodating course content.
