Encore Career Grant

Have you ever dreamed of being a teacher?

Welcome! Here you will find more information about a unique training opportunity at OSU-Oklahoma City. Through a generous grant provided by MetLife Foundation and administrated by The Civic Ventures Foundation, OSU-OKC will be training baby boomer metro residents how to teach college.

Because of their rich life experiences, MetLife and Civic Ventures believe that soon-to-be retired or recently retired baby boomers represent an important resource in modern society. If these people can be retrained and repurposed, society will benefit. After that retraining, baby boomers are ready for an encore career.

An “encore career” is an occupational pursuit that a person begins after the conclusion of the job that they have enjoyed until retirement. An encore career is geared toward the retiree that still feels as though they have something useful to contribute to the masses.

OSU-OKC’s Encore Career training opportunity is for you if you’ve ever asked any of the following questions:

  • How will I continue to feel useful now that I’m retired?
  • Now that I’m retired, what type of part-time work will compensate me for my time and be rewarding?
  • What type of part-time job will afford me the dignity that I had as a professional? (I don’t want to wear a name tag or a vest.)
  • What type of part-time work will allow me the flexibility to travel and visit family and friends, and stimulate me intellectually?
  • How can I give something back?

OSU-OKC is now evaluating applications. All applicants who submitted an application will be notified by March 1st of their status. The first cohort of training will begin on March 21, 2011.
