Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City’s (OSU-OKC) Center for Safety and Emergency Preparedness (CSEP) recently graduated its first Professional Truck Driving Class. The class is the only Oklahoma course of its kind to be certified by the Professional Truck Driver Institute and is currently accepting students for the September class.

OSU-OKC’s CSEP began partnering with Central Technology Center in February 2017 to offer Professional Truck Driver Training courses. The eight-week course takes place at OSU-OKC’s state-of-the-art driving facility with a driving range equipped with a three-quarter mile highway course and skill pad practice areas designed to allow each student to develop the skills necessary to become proficient in driving today’s tractor trailers.

“The course meets rigorous skill, curriculum and program standards,” said RuthAnn Baugh, OSU-OKC CSEP director. “The most exciting thing is that participants will be prepared to join the trucking industry after just eight weeks of training.”

Two students per truck allows each student a minimum of 44 hours of drive-time ensuring the ability to develop proficient driving skills including control/vehicle systems, vehicle pre-trip inspection, air brakes systems and various backing maneuvers as well as progressive shifting and night driving.

Upon successful completion of the class, students will earn their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), certificate of completion, and a Professional Truck Driver Institute seal of attainment indicating completion of all standards.

Participants must be 21 or older, have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. To see all qualifications and to enroll in the course, visit For more information, visit OSU-OKC’s CSEP at 3501 W. Reno, or call 405-945-3208 or visit
