OSU-OKC Celebrates our Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Community

September 10, 2020

Hello! Welcome. This month, September, is “International Deaf Awareness Month.” The last full week of September is “International Week of the Deaf” or what we typically call “Deaf Awareness Week.”

Here at OSU-OKC we celebrate the people, culture and issues facing our deaf or hard-of-hearing friends in Oklahoma. If you are hearing, we encourage you to take time to become familiar with those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Some activities include reading books highlighting the achievements of deaf people or one written by a deaf person. Also, learn about the different degrees of hearing loss, Deaf culture, and sign language.

If you are deaf or hard-of-hearing, we encourage you to look into taking classes here at OSU-OKC which has a community of students and educators who practice equal access, diversity and inclusion. So email us at okc.accessibility@okstate.edu and we will be happy to help you!
