Assistive Technology on Campus

Assistive Technology in the college setting refers to products, devices, or equipment that can assist individuals with disabilities with their educational activities and independence. Below is a list of the assistive technology products that are currently available for students with disabilities at OSU-Oklahoma City.

 

WYNN

 

Type: Software

 

Function: WYNN is software that helps users read, study, and comprehend text more easily and effectively.

 

Location(s):

  • Student Services/Academic Advisement lobby, 1st floor of the Student Center, on the computer nearest to the Student Services Conference Room
 

JAWS

 

Type: Software

 

Function: JAWS is a screen reader program that conveys information from a computer screen in speech, and is best suited for individuals who are blind.

 

Location: OSU-Oklahoma City Library, 4th Floor Learning and Resource Center (LRC) building, row of three computer workstations against the wall to the right of the checkout desk. Also available for study use in the OSU-Oklahoma City Student Success and Opportunity Center (SSOC), and can be installed in classrooms upon request.

 

DaVinci Magnifier with Text-to-Speech Function

 

Type: Hardware

 

Function: The DaVinci is an independent piece of assistive technology hardware that scans printed material, such as books, magazines, etc. and reads it aloud to the user while providing options for magnification and color contrast.

 

Location: OSU-Oklahoma City Library, 4th Floor Learning and Resource Center (LRC) building, Group Study Room 5.

 

Optelec Text Magnifier

 

Type: Hardware

 

Function: A text magnification tool that displays enlarged text on a connected television screen.

 

Location: OSU-Oklahoma City Library, 4th Floor Learning and Resource Center (LRC) building, northeast side of the library against the wall.

 

Assistive Listening Devices

 

Assistive Listening Devices are available to loan to students who are hard-of-hearing.

 

ZoomText

 

Type: Software

 

Function: A screen magnification program for those with low vision. It has multiple options for magnification and color contrast.

 

Location: Available for study use in the OSU-Oklahoma City Student Success and Opportunity Center (SSOC), and can also be installed in classrooms upon request.
